…Village on the ‘grüne Bach’

Grönebach stands out above all for its forested surroundings with beautiful landscapes. At an altitude of 560 to 825 metres, this place offers year-round relaxation for family or do holidays. The Ruhrquelle is just 2 km from the village centre.

Grönebach has a lively club life. The atmosphere in the village on the ‘Grüne Bach’ is relaxed and convivial. The Romanesque 12th century weather church tower is the oldest building in the municipality of Winterberg. Grönebach was the main town of the free county of the same name until the creation of the Niedersfeld district in 1812.

In 1989 and 1993, the beautiful village was awarded the bronze medal in the competition ‘our village must become more beautiful’.

In the year 2025, the village will be 775 years old, which will be celebrated grandly on the last weekend of August that year.

Winterberg

The municipality of Winterberg has 14 picturesque villages, with untouched village life, and at the heart of these villages lies the town of Winterberg.

A town with an old town centre, where the houses still look like the old days. There are nice terraces on the square and plenty of shopping for enthusiasts. It is the town from where everything starts and where everyone returns at the end of the day. There is a 365-day holiday atmosphere there.

Willingen

Is a town where there is plenty to do all year round. Hiking, mountain biking, wellness, shopping and much more. If the weather is a bit off, it is also worth driving there, as you can visit the slate mine, the glass works and the beer brewery. Willingen is also all about winter sports in winter, with snow-covered slopes and modern lifts. New in Willingen is the Skywalk, a suspension bridge no less than 665 metres long at a height of about 100 metres.

Hallenberg

The southernmost town in Sauerland, with the foothills of the Rothaarsteig mountains and bordering the next province of Hesse.

The historic old town attracts many visitors for its special character and beautiful half-timbered houses.

Reservoirs

Sauerland also has many reservoirs such as the Diemelsee, Edersee, Hennesee and, 3 km away from Grönebach, the Hillebachsee where there has been a water ski and wakeboard track for several years. With a sunny day, it is great to take a dip here. Each lake has a beach.

Through Sauerland you can make beautiful day trips by car or motorbike and see the many small and larger villages with their characteristic half-timbered houses and castles and fortresses.
